Charles Movalli was an American painter, writer, and art educator best known for his expressive landscapes and coastal scenes of New England. Though he held a PhD in English, Movalli devoted his career to art, studying under Emile Gruppe and developing a bold, energetic painting style using acrylics.

He exhibited widely across the U.S. and was active in major art associations including the Rockport Art Association and the Guild of Boston Artists. Movalli was also a prolific writer, contributing over 70 articles to American Artist magazine and editing nine influential art books. As a teacher, he led workshops in 24 U.S. states and abroad, and served as a juror for national exhibitions. He received Life Achievement Awards from the Oil Painters of America and other prestigious art groups.
