Patinated bronze, signed "Germain JB" with pastille mark "CASA BELLAS ARTES/AVDA DE MAYO/625/BUENOS AIRES", the group atop a round socle with engraved cartouche "EXCELSIOR/ PAR J B GERMAIN / MEDAILLE / AU SALON" to the obverse.

Born in the Marne region of France, sculptor Jean-Baptiste Germain was trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris by preeminent French Academic sculptors Charles Guméry (1827-1871) and Augustin-Alexandre Dumont (1801-1884). Germain exhibited at the Salon from 1866 to 1879, and was well-known for his figural bronzes depicting Neoclassical style figures and animal subjects. His gilt bronze statuette, Semeur is held in the prestigious collection of the Musée d'Orsay, Paris, accession number ChB 221.

Overall good estate condition; some scattered areas of rubbing to the patina.
