Alkaline glazed stoneware, a bulbous ovoid form with applied ear handles and flat rim, applied high ear handles, and warm olive alkaline glaze with pleasing runs from each handle, stamped at shoulder with a strong impression signature above the capacity mark "JFS / V."

A fine collector example from one of the earliest potters in Catawba Valley and son of Daniel Seagle (ca.1805-1867). This well-turned form is marked with the rare Roman numeral "V", denoting the five gallon size, and strong impressed "JFS" stamp. Sold at our gallery Sept. 13, 2008, Lot 137.
