Private North Carolina Collection André Normil was a celebrated Haitian painter known for his colorful portrayals of Haitian life. Born in Port-au-Prince, he began as a decorative artist and joined the Centre d’Art in 1951. His career flourished through a decades-long relationship with Galerie Issa.
Normil’s work featured lively scenes of daily life—street vendors, schoolchildren, musicians—and also drew on historical and biblical themes. His vibrant, detailed compositions earned him international recognition, with exhibitions across the Caribbean, U.S., and Europe. His work is held in major collections, including the Musée d’Art Haïtien and the Milwaukee Art Museum.
Abrasions and associated losses, mostly to the edge of the board; scattered paint splatters over composition.
