Lot Details & Additional Photographs
Contemporary, sawn and carved wood with nail construction, to include a gray dog with red stripe pattern holding removable stick in its mouth, signed "Julie Libby" to rear (15 1/2 x 17 in.); and a blue dog with green stripe pattern holding removable stick in its mouth, unsigned (11 x 22 in.).
Libby crafts wooden toys and folk furniture from logs foraged from demolition and clear-cutting sites along the Cape Fear coast. She gets inspiration for the form of her pieces, "from the curves coming out in the wood." Libby's sculptures can be seen at Blue Moon Showcase at the Racine Center for the Arts, Etc. in Southport, and the New Hanover County Extension Service Arboretum.
Some joint looseness with associated paint crackle; minor dust soiling to crevices.
