Julie Libby (NC), Two Folk Carved and Painted Creatures

Contemporary, sawn and carved wood with nail construction, to include a wolf-like creature with green and orange dot pattern, signed "USA/MADE/Julie/Libby" to abdomen (23 x 27 in.), and a rooster-like creature with multicolor neck and red stick form wings with black and white dot pattern mounted to green plinth, signed "J/Libby" to lower right wing (19 x 28 in.).

Libby crafts wooden toys and folk furniture from logs foraged from demolition and clear-cutting sites along the Cape Fear coast. She gets inspiration for the form of her pieces, "from the curves coming out in the wood." Libby's sculptures can be seen at Blue Moon Showcase at the Racine Center for the Arts, Etc. in Southport, and the New Hanover County Extension Service Arboretum.

Some joint looseness with associated paint crackle; minor dust soiling to crevices; wolf-like creature has losses to teeth and claws, break and repair to one claw, scattered small cracks to wood, small chip to tip of right ear.
