Mary (1908-2007) and Edwin Scheier (1910-2008) were a married couple who worked collaboratively on pottery throughout their 69-year marriage. Mary was an expert on the potter's wheel, while Edwin decorated the works with motifs reflecting his interest in spirituality and anthropology. In 1940, the couple moved to New Hampshire to teach at both the University of New Hampshire and the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen.

After Edwin's return from service in WWII, he began to use new imagery inspired by his travels seen abroad. These motifs recurred throughout his career along with imagery depicting fertility, regeneration, primitivism and creation.

Beginning around 1968, they spent nearly a decade in Oaxaca, Mexico, and imagery from this experience began to appear on their works. They later lived and worked in Green Valley, Arizona. The duo's works are included in numerous prestigious museum and private collections.

Good estate condition; two minute glaze flakes to rim edge.
