Béla Kádár was an important Hungarian modernist painter. Born in Budapest, he began painting murals before studying in Munich and Paris. He rose to prominence with exhibitions at Berlin’s Galerie Der Sturm and in New York’s Brooklyn Museum. During WWII, Kádár was forced into the Budapest ghetto, where he lost his wife and sons to the Holocaust. Despite these tragedies, he continued creating art until his death.
