Clarence Morgan is an American visual artist, writer, and educator known for his abstract works in painting, drawing, and printmaking. He received formal training at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the University of Pennsylvania.
Morgan accepted a teaching position at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina in 1978. During his tenure at ECU, he taught drawing and painting and played an integral role in shaping the program’s curriculum. His years in North Carolina were formative—providing a platform to refine his teaching philosophy, develop new bodies of work, and engage with the vibrant artistic communities across the state. Afterward, he began teaching at the University of Minnesota. He currently lives and works in Minneapolis.
Morgan has exhibited in more than 200 solo and group shows, including at the Walker Art Center, American Academy of Arts and Letters, and Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. His work is held in major public collections such as the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Minneapolis Institute of Art.
