Thick 4to; 276, [2], 198. With numerous tissue-guarded engraved plates.

With "novels" discussing numerous works of art and biographies of dozens of artists such as Rubens, Titian, Dürer, and Raphael.

Boards with some rubbing and scuffing from age, the corners rubbed and bumped, wear to spine ends, and a 1 1/2-in. split at the head of the front joint; interior with insect damage to front endpapers, toning and scattered light foxing throughout, an occasional tear or chip at the margins and corners mostly due to drying paper, a couple of small stains, and some tissue guards with folds and creases. A sturdy, good to very good copy.
