Augustus Hamilton Peck was an American artist celebrated for his contributions to modernist illustration, printmaking, and painting. Born in Frederick, Maryland, Peck was active in New York and Vermont, notably serving as director of the Brooklyn Museum Art School in the 1940s. His work, often associated with the Works Progress Administration (WPA), includes lithographs, etchings, and paintings that explore themes of circus life, portraiture, and social realism. Peck's art is held in major institutions such as the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the National Gallery of Art.
