Late 19th century, patinated bronze, signed "Debut.", with foundry mark of "SUSSE F.RES", depicting the Renaissance artist Raphael Sanzio showing an admirer a sketch of his Madonna della Seggiola composition.

23 x 8 x 8 in.

Debut exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1848 until his death in 1893. He was awarded a Prix de Rome for his sculpture Porteur d'Eau Tunisien (Tunisian Water Carrier), a reflection of the popularity of French Orientalism in the second half of the 19th century. Debut was also commissioned to decorate several important Parisian buildings such as the Hôtel de Ville, the Palais Garnier, and the Tribunal de Commerce.

Some areas of rubbing and marks to patina; otherwise good estate condition.
