Antique German Carved Walnut Brettstuhl

18th century, shaped and relief carved back with mask and heart cut-out with incised initials "HN" and date "1730", plank seat with pegged faceted tapered splayed legs.

33 x 17 x 14 in.

Note the fine construction with through tenon and pin joinery to the back and the dovetailed batten support for the legs which have provided strength throughout the years.

Insect damage; wear and shrinkage cracks to the seat; break and repair to the rear right central carved ear of the back.
