Wool, 20th century, the field of natural variegated brown wool interspersed with vibrant vertical lines of reds, coral, blue, and black, one section forming a cut pile surface, with hanging sleeve sewn to back, signed and labeled by artist to verso and embroidered with artist's cipher to face. Proceeds to benefit the Cynthina & Edwina Bringle Scholarship.

Being sold to benefit Penland School of Craft, Penland, North Carolina Penland’s scholarship program exists to make our workshops accessible to those who are not able to participate without financial assistance and to create educational opportunities for people who have been underrepresented at Penland and in the craft world. Proceeds from this auction will help fund existing scholarships, with some proceeds designated towards specific scholarships as noted in the listings.
Edwina Bringle found her way to Penland in 1963 and learned how to weave there while her twin sister studied ceramics. After retiring as professor of art emerita at UNC Charlotte, Bringle found her way back to Penland, where she has taught weaving for many years and has been honored as an "Outstanding Art Educator." She is also an accomplished photographer. Her work is in the collection of the Smithsonian Museum, the North Carolina Museum of History, the Greenville Museum of Art, the Mint Museum of Art in Charlotte, and the Gregg Museum of Art and Design in Raleigh.
Some discoloration and mis-shaping to hanging sleeve; otherwise good condition.
