Proceeds of this lot to benefit the general Penland Scholarship.

Being sold to benefit Penland School of Craft, Penland, North Carolina Penland’s scholarship program exists to make our workshops accessible to those who are not able to participate without financial assistance and to create educational opportunities for people who have been underrepresented at Penland and in the craft world. Proceeds from this auction will help fund existing scholarships, with some proceeds designated towards specific scholarships as noted in the listings.
María Dávila and Eduardo Portillo live in Venezuala, but have studied around the world in places such as China, India, and the United States. Their fiber art collaborations speak to the people, places, and landscapes of their life journeys.
They received the Smithsonian Artist Research Fellowship in 2017, and their work can be found in collections such as the Whitworth Art Gallery, UK; Longhouse Reserve, NY; the Cooper Hewitt Museum; Smithsonian Design Museum, NY; the Toledo Museum of Art, OH; and the Art Institute of Chicago.
