From the Collection of the late Betty Jo Royster, Durham, North Carolina Sid Oakley was a native of Granville County, North Carolina. In 1968 he and his wife, Pat, founded Cedar Creek Pottery and Gallery in his home county. Named a North Carolina Living Treasure in 1989, Oakley mentored and championed hundreds, if not thousands, of contemporary artists and craftspeople. He was particularly known for work in ceramics, especially for his glazing techniques and his work is in the permanent collections of many major museums. But he frequently worked in other mediums, such as paint and pastels.
