Private Collection, Edenton, North Carolina C. Harry Allis was born in Dayton, Ohio. He began his studies at the Detroit Museum of Art School, where he later taught drawing and painting and served as an art critic for the
Detroit Free Press. Allis also studied with Harry Eaton in New York and with William-Adolphe Bouguereau in Paris.
Allis is best known for his impressionist landscapes which were exhibited at the Paris Salon, the Carnegie Institute International Exhibition, the Chicago Art Institute, the St. Louis Exposition, the Cincinnati Museum of Art, the John Herron Art Institute of Indianapolis, and the Detroit Museum of Art.
