Beatrice Modisett is a visual artist whose work explores the cyclical relationship between creation and destruction through natural materials and tactile processes. Raised between Washington, D.C., and a remote New England island, she draws inspiration from contrasting landscapes and her off-grid property in Summit, New York, where she gathers organic materials like fallen wood to create charcoal and sculptural elements for her drawings. Her imagery often evokes abstracted natural phenomena such as clouds, whirlwinds, and geological formations.
Modisett earned her BFA from Montserrat College of Art and her MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University. Her work has been exhibited at institutions including the Maier Museum of Art, Queens Museum, and Mana Contemporary, and she has received residencies from Wave Hill, Palazzo Monti, and Vermont Studio Center. She lives and works between Queens and Summit, New York, and continues to explore themes of impermanence and transformation in the natural world.
