Balazs Szabo was a Hungarian-born artist who fled communism during the 1956 revolution, eventually resettling in the United States, where his formal art training began. He studied in New York, Vienna, Honolulu, and Budapest, including mentorship under Hungarian painter Pal Fried and training at the Vienna Fine Arts Academy and Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. After working in California and Hawaii, Szabo settled in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1993, where he became involved in the local art scene and exhibited at Lee Hansley Gallery.

Szabo’s work includes numerous major mural commissions, international exhibitions (including a two-man show with Andy Warhol), and awards such as the Society of Illustrators Award and the Kasser Foundation Award. His art is featured in both private and institutional collections worldwide, including the Honolulu Academy of Arts, American Hungarian Foundation, and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. His 9/11 painting was publicly exhibited at the North Carolina Museum of History.
