From the Collection of Madeleine Katavolos, Pinehurst, North Carolina

With bookplate of "Dr. & Madame Bodichon, / 5, Blandford Square, N.W." Barbara Lee Smith Bodichon (British, 1827-1891) was an artist and a key figure in the women's rights movement in England. She fought for women's suffrage and education, and wrote a variety of pamphlets addressing their legal and economic rights. A single folded sheet with sketches laid in loose in vol. V is presumably the work of this artist.

Boards with scattered scuffs and scratches, a couple of small areas with signs of repair, mild wear to extremities, occasional light dry cracking to leather, and joints with some creasing and rubbing; interiors with typical age wear such as light toning, expected offsetting, and mild foxing; infrequent grime, stain, corner fold, or small loss at margin; a leaf of one volume with a 1 1/2-in. tear impacting text; a couple of maps with a minor tear. Sturdy, beautiful, and extremely clean. A very good plus set.
