Lot Details & Additional Photographs
First half of the 20th century, double-sided natural hide skin with needlework designs of four "Whirling Log" motifs centering a cross within a diamond form grid with serrated borders; included with the Lot is an appraisal from Fitch's Trading Post Inc.

Approximately 30 in. including fringe

The "whirling log" motif represents well-being, good luck and protection. In Navajo or Diné culture, the whirling logs motif recalls the four seasons, the four directions, and the four sacred mountains. The motif disappeared in the 1930s for misappropriation during the Nazi regime, despite its benign origin as a native American symbol.

Good estate condition. some light staining.
