Alden Timothy Cox is a fourth‑generation Arizonan who grew up in the ranching community of Duncan, Arizona, near the New  Mexico border. His formal studies included drawing at Brigham Young University under William Whitaker and he further honed his skills with guidance from established Western painters. In 1975 he began painting professionally, working ten-hour days to produce hyper-realistic oils that depict modern cowboys, ranchers, horses, cattle, and sweeping Western skies—each rooted in first-hand experience on actual ranches .
Cox has earned wide recognition: he won the prestigious Prix de West Purchase Award in 2003, multiple Express Ranches Great American Cowboy Awards (2004 and 2007), and was named Will Rogers Western Artist of the Year in 200. He joined the Cowboy Artists of America in 2007, later serving as president. His paintings are found in the permanent collections of institutions like the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, Booth Western Art Museum, and Old West Museum. In 2025, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Desert Caballeros Western Museum. Now residing near Bloomfield, New  Mexico, Cox continues to paint, ranch, and train horses alongside his family, integrating living cowboy experience directly into his work.
