John Frederick Herring, Jr. was an English painter, son of the celebrated equestrian artist John Frederick Herring, Sr. Growing up in a family of artist, he was immersed early in the world of equestrian and sporting art. While Herring Sr. focused on formal horse portraits and racing imagery, Herring Jr. broadened his scope to include farmyard and pastoral landscapes, often depicting horses, cattle, and other animals in rustic, everyday settings.

Herring Jr. exhibited regularly at leading venues such as the Royal Academy and the British Institution. He spent his later life in Cambridgeshire, where he died in 1907. Today, his paintings remain sought after by collectors of British sporting and animal art.
