Fourth quarter 18th century, engraved with gilt metal face with cast figural relief spandrels flanking a round 11 3/8 in. silvered dial with Roman and Arabic chapters and subsidiary seconds dial, signed T. Hatton Clare for Thomas Clare Hatton of Cheshire, dual weight eight day movement striking on an apical bell, with pendulum; set within a mahogany case with stepped dome hood having two fully turned front columns, weight door with book-matched flame veneers carved molded trim, flanked by two front quarter columns above a rectangular inlaid base with repeating book matched veneers, and carved bracket feet.

Case with some shrinkage cracks to base and sides; veneer crack to base front; domed hood with some edge losses to trim and old insect damage; loss to lower rear panel; later wood works platform.
