(10) letters, all addressed to Dr. Charles W. Richardson in Washington, D.C., including: (7) one-page TLS on War Department letterhead, 1905-1908, with many being notes of thanks for gifts, one with the additional hand-written note following a typed thank you for a bottle of cordial, "What I liked was the celery," and one regarding two D.C. statues; a one-page TLS on Taft's personal Cincinnati, Ohio letterhead, dated December 11, 1908 and written from Washington, D.C., thanking Richardson for congratulating him on winning the November 1908 election; a one-page TLS on Taft's personal New Haven, CT letterhead, dated August 4, 1921 and written from Pointe-au-Pic, Quebec, Canada, thanking Richardson for congratulating him on his appointment to be Chief Justice of the Supreme Court earlier that summer; and one ALS from Helen Taft, a note of thanks dated June 30th; all signed.

William Howard Taft (1857-1930) was the 27th U.S. President and the 10th Supreme Court Chief Justice. He was the only person to hold both of these important offices.

Each with horizontal fold line; frequent ink bleeding due to moisture, occasional offsetting and marks (including some with rust from staples), and general signs of age and light handling wear; (3) with paper and glue residue to verso likely from being previously mounted, including one with associated wear to paper; Helen Taft letter with two areas of wear and residue to paper.
