Georges‑Frédéric Rötig was a notable French animalier painter and watercolorist, born in Le Havre and educated at the École des Beaux‑Arts in Paris under masters like Jules  Lefebvre, Benjamin  Constant, and Jean‑Paul  Laurens. From 1894 onward, he regularly exhibited prestigious works at the Salon des Artistes Français where he earned several honors, including the Rosa  Bonheur Prize in 1913.

Renowned for his intimate yet dynamic depictions of wildlife—often deer, wild boars, hunting dogs, big cats, and even African fauna—Rötig combined meticulous field sketches with evocative studio paintings that capture animals in motion and in their natural habitats, sometimes at dusk or under moonlight.
