Silk on fine linen, all worked in tiny cross-stitch, featuring a central vase and floral motif flanked by smaller vase and floral, tree, and avian motifs, with a leaf-bordered pious poem and the name "Mary Almana Barnett / aged 12 years / 1855," with trailing strawberry border, framed in birdseye maple frame with gold liner, under glass.

The maker of this sampler was possibly the same Mary Almana Barnett born 12 September 1842 in East Ham, London, the daughter of Samuel Mabley Barnett, a prosperous grocer. She married Henry Forward in 1863 but died in 1866.

Fading; small holes to one corner; frame with nicks and scrapes and separation to paper backing; not examined out of frame.
