England, circa 1815, blue and white transferware platter from the Caramanian pattern series first introduced in 1809 inspired by Luigi Mayer's three volumes entitled Views of Egypt (1801), Views of the Ottoman Empire Chiefly in Caramania (1803), and Views of Palestine (1804), this platter inspired by Mayer's plate The Castle of Boudron in the Gulf of Stancio, impressed with "Spode/A" and marked "D" to underside. This lot includes two copies of a 1972 letter from Spode Limited in England in response to an inquiry about the platter as well as a photograph of the platter from the same period.
