Mose Tolliver (American, 1925-2006), Two Folk Art Camels

Late 20th century, both painted cut wood camels nailed to rectangular plinths and decorated with animals, both signed "MOZE T" to verso.

Both approximately 8 x 12 1/2 x 3 3/4 in.

Mose Tolliver was born to sharecroppers near Montgomery, Alabama. After a severe injury in the late 1960s, he turned to painting as a means to combat boredom and pain. Tolliver's work has been exhibited in the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, D.C., the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, the American Folk Art Museum, New York, and the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, Montgomery, Alabama.
