From the Estate of the late Susan C. Frankenberg, Hillsborough, North Carolina Mose Tolliver was born to sharecroppers near Montgomery, Alabama. After a severe injury in the late 1960s, he turned to painting as a means to combat boredom and pain. Tolliver's work has been exhibited in the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, D.C., the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, the American Folk Art Museum, New York, and the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, Montgomery, Alabama.
