From the Estate of the late Susan C. Frankenberg, Hillsborough, North Carolina Marion Boyd Allen was an American painter from Boston known for her accomplished portraits and later landscape paintings. After delaying formal art training to care for her mother, she entered the Boston Museum School at age 40, studying under Frank Benson and Edmund Tarbell. In the 1920s, she expanded into landscape painting, traveling widely across the American West and Canada to capture dramatic natural scenes and Indigenous subjects. She exhibited at major institutions including the National Academy of Design and Pennsylvania Academy.
