René Marie Léon Devillario (French, 1874-1942), Seated Woman in a Forest Landscape

Oil on canvas, 1911, signed and dated at lower right, presented in a cassetta style giltwood frame with vintage Parisian label affixed to the verso and galley plaque at lower center.

Stretcher size 25 3/4 x 32 in.; Frame dimensions 35 3/4 x 42 in.

Rene Marie Leon Devillario was a French painter born in Saint-Didier-les-Bains. He trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Henner, Lefebvre, Robert-Fleury, and Laurens. He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français, and was later shown hors concours. In 1930, he was named a Chevalier of the Légion d’Honneur and received the Palmes Académiques.

Small patch to verso with associated area of retouching visible under UV light inspection, otherwise good estate condition.
