17th -19th century, an intimidating ceremonial weapon consisting of a pointed two-edged 47-1/4 in. blade below a barbed ricasso having sparsely engraved designs; two large parry rings above frame a pair of fleur-de-lis; the sword's cross-hatched leather grip is below an iron pommel; two decorative fur or fabric elements grace the handle. A small brass chain, possibly for hanging, is present.


Acquired at an Austrian auction in the early 1960s by Walter A. Althausen

Aged surfaces throughout; some leather losses to the sword's grip; overall very good condition.
