Frederick William Scarborough was a British painter known for his atmospheric marine, coastal, and river scenes, particularly those depicting the bustling activity of the River Thames and London’s docks. Working primarily in watercolor, often heightened with gouache and white accents, Scarborough captured the industrial and maritime life of Britain at the turn of the century. His compositions frequently feature iconic London landmarks such as Tower Bridge and London Bridge, set amid tugboats, cargo ships, against a hazy atmospheric backdrop.
