Lot Details & Additional Photographs
As a young photographer in 1948, South Dakota native Bill Groethe earned a name for himself by taking a group shot of the remaining eight Sioux warriors who had participated in "Custer's Last Stand" of 1876. Here we present three portraits of named warriors, these being
High Eagle,
Black Elk, and
Little Soldier. Each image credits Groethe's work to either "Bell Studio" or "Bell 6 Studio." The prints were made using high quality textured paper and are presented in conforming wooden frames with glass.
Sight size 13 1/2 x 10 3/4 in. (for vertical photos); Frame dimensions 14 1/2 x 11 5/8 in.
