George Hardy was an English genre painter and member of the Cranbrook Colony, celebrated for his warmly detailed depictions of domestic life inspired by Dutch and Flemish traditions. Born in Brighton, he trained at the Royal Academy Schools and exhibited more than forty works at the Royal Academy between 1846 and 1892, including The Leisure Hour (1855) and La Sœur de Charité (1866).
