Laurence Sisson was an American landscape painter born in Boston, Massachusetts. He received formal artistic training at the Worcester Art Museum School and Yale University. He later became the director of the Worcester Art Museum School. His paintings were exhibited widely in the United States, including at the Corcoran Gallery of Art and the National Academy of Design.
Later in life, Sisson moved to New Mexico, where he integrated Southwestern landscapes into his body of work. Though his early career featured maritime themes along the New England coast, his later career featured desert landscapes, mountain ranges, and sky-filled vistas where he conveyed the dramatic geography and unique light effects of the region.
