Born in Buffalo, New York, James Kerr credits Lazlo Szabo, a renowned portrait painter, and Carl Illig, a prominent landscape painter, as his two greatest mentors. He describes his work as all about "capturing a moment in time."

Now living in Delray Beach, Florida, Kerr spent many years maintaining a studio near Banner Elk in the North Carolina mountains. His vibrant and colorful paintings capture the best of a Carolina lifestyle.
