Arthur Bowen Davies is one of the foremost American advocates for the advancement of modern art in the early 20th century. He was also a very highly regarded artist in his own right. A member of The Eight, his ethereal and mesmerizing figural paintings were actively sought after by such contemporary collectors as Duncan Phillips of the Phillips Collection and Abby Aldrich Rockefeller for the Museum of Modern Art. Additionally, Davies was one of the principal organizers of the 1913 Armory Show.
