From the Estate of the late Susan C. Frankenberg, Hillsborough, North Carolina James King Bonnar was an American painter from Massachusetts known for his landscapes, marine scenes, and murals depicting New England harbors. Born in North Adams and based in Newtonville, he studied at the Massachusetts School of Art under Joseph DeCamp and Ernest Major. Bonnar was a central figure in the regional art community, founding the Newton Art Association in 1949 and serving as its first president.
