1839, silk on fine linen, worked in cross stitch and satin stitch, the central tree motif with hanging basket of imaginative flowers, surrounded by fanciful bird, butterfly, and floral motifs, the upper register with lines from Theocritus' Idyll 23, signed "Catharine Barnett Ages 11 Years 1839" to lower register with hearts, the border with twining flowers and berries, in two-tone wooden frame.

Frame 18 1/4 x 18 5/8 in.; sight 16 1/2 x 17 1/8 in.

Fading, but still attractive pink, green, and gold colors to silk; some small holes in linen ground; repairs; some areas of discoloration; scuffs to frame; not examined out of frame.
