Thomas Lorraine Hunt was a Canadian-born painter who became an influential figure in the Southern California art scene. Born in London, Ontario, he learned painting from his father and later studied with American impressionist Hugh H. Breckenridge. Hunt initially worked in real estate and construction in Cleveland, Ohio, but after visiting California in the early 1920s he devoted himself fully to painting. By 1927 he had settled in Laguna Beach, where he built a home and studio and became active in the Laguna Beach Art Association, even helping to select the site for what would become the Laguna Art Museum.

Hunt’s works are notable for bridging Impressionism and emerging modernism, his landscapes featuring simplified forms and vibrant colors. His work was well respected among peers, earning awards at California exhibitions and recognition from institutions like the Pasadena Art Institute. Posthumous exhibitions of Hunts works were held at the Laguna Beach Art Association and later at the Laguna Art Museum

Age cracking, very slight wrinkle to the paper; a few losses to the frame.
