By descent through the consignor's family, who were friends with the artist and his family in Greenwich Village.

Jan Yoors was a Belgian-American multidisciplinary artist known for his work in tapestry, photography, painting, and writing. Born in Antwerp to an artist father, he spent his teenage years living intermittently with a Romani community. During World War II, Yoors joined the resistance, was imprisoned, and later resumed his artistic studies in London before relocating to New York.

In New York, Yoors established a tapestry studio and became a leading figure in the modern revival of the medium, overseeing large-scale woven works based on his own designs. Alongside this, he pursued photography, capturing urban life, Romani culture, and sacred architecture. His works continue to be exhibited internationally through galleries and the Jan Yoors Studio archive.
