Parmenter received formal training at Walla Walla College as well as Southern Oregon College of Art. His naturalistic figural sculptures are known for their adept handling of movement, grace, and idealized beauty. As the artist himself once said, "The beauty of the living form . . . has fascinated me . . . in the torso I find endless drama. The essence of my role as an artist is to capture that drama at its most poignant moment."
