Irving Amen was an American painter, printmaker, and sculptor recognized for his woodcuts, etchings, and engravings. Born in New York City, he studied at the Art Students League and later traveled in Europe, Israel, and the Far East, where he developed many of the themes seen throughout his career. His work often focused on subjects such as faith, family, music, and Jewish tradition. Amen exhibited widely, including at the Smithsonian Institution, and completed public commissions such as stained glass windows and murals. His clear, graphic style and emphasis on line made his work distinctive within mid-20th-century American printmaking.
