Francis Allen Sprout was an American artist and educator. He studied studio art and art education at the University of Arizona in the 1960s. After teaching at high schools in Tucson, Arizona and Santee, California, he entered the visual art program at the University of California, San Diego as a Ford Foundation Fellow, earning his Master of Fine Arts in 1972.

Sprout taught at the University of Denver from 1972 to 1974, and in 1973 represented Colorado in the 74th Western Annual at the Denver Art Museum. He later joined Metropolitan State College in Denver. In 1984 he pursued African Studies at UCLA. He subsequently taught at Arizona State University, and in 1991 relocated to Port Chester, New York, where he maintained a studio and taught at Purchase College, Manhattanville College, and the Pratt Institute.

In 2004, Sprout moved to Vero Beach, Florida, continuing studio work and teaching at Indian River State College and the Vero Beach Museum of Art. His work is held in the collections of the Arizona State University Museum of Art, the Neuberger Museum of Art, and in corporate and private collections.
