Private Collection, Raleigh, North Carolina Eric Olsen received his BFA from the Art Institute of Chicago and later completed an MFA at East Carolina University. This painting was completed during his residency at the McColl Center in Charlotte.
Olsen described his work from this period as dealing with perception in relation to picture space. By working from multiple subjects, his drawings portray contradictory figure/ground relationships. Eric plays with psychological issues involved in portraying a personal picture space. He feels that the most charged part of an image comes not from seeing one thing or another, but from the minute point in time when the viewer's point of view changes.
