Jean-Marie Toulgouat was a French painter closely tied to Claude Monet’s legacy in Giverny. The grandson of American painter Theodore Butler and Suzanne Hoschedé—Monet’s stepdaughter—he was introduced to art early by his family, including Blanche Hoschedé-Monet. After training as an architect and landscape architect in Paris, he returned to Giverny in the 1960s and dedicated himself fully to painting.

Alongside his artistic career, Toulgouat played a key role in preserving and restoring Monet’s house and gardens. His paintings often reflect the landscapes, gardens, and changing light of Giverny, blending Impressionist influences with a modern style. He exhibited internationally and was represented in London by David Messum Fine Art.

Good estate condition, not examined outside the frame.
