From the Collection of the late Robert and Judith Weston, Detroit, Michigan Leo Rabkin was an American abstract artist celebrated for his experimental use of diverse media, including stitched canvases, folded paper, plastics, mirrors, and his signature “box constructions.” Born in Cincinnati, he later moved to New York, where he studied with Hale Woodruff and William Baziotes and became president of the American Abstract Artists group. His work is represented in major collections such as the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. In his later years, he created the WHIM series, transforming postcards into mixed-media artworks. With his wife Dorothea, he established the Dorothea and Leo Rabkin Foundation to support artists and art writers.
