Michael Whelan is an American artist celebrated for his work in science fiction and fantasy illustration. Over a career spanning more than four decades, he has produced hundreds of book and album covers for authors and musicians including Stephen King, Isaac Asimov, Anne McCaffrey, and Meat Loaf. Widely recognized as a leading figure in imaginative realism, Whelan has received numerous honors, including fifteen Hugo Awards and induction into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame in 2009. Since the 1990s, he has focused increasingly on fine art, with his paintings represented in galleries and private collections worldwide.
